I think that many people like rainy days because they are somehow calming. I too, love the indescribable feeling of being still on a rainy day. The feeling of being purified... Let us consider the changes that appear in the human body!
Sounds in nature contain a mysterious “1/f fluctuation” that we feel comfortable with through our five senses. This relaxing effect calms the autonomic nervous system, allowing for restful sleep and stress relief, as well as improving work efficiency and easing tension.
The “1/f fluctuation” often mentioned in VAKANS COLUMN refers to the irregular “fluctuating” frequencies of trees in the forest, murmuring rivers, the sound of waves, insects, human heartbeats, and the sound of rain, which fluctuate with the wind. Everything organic in nature has a “fluctuation. The reason we feel calm when listening to the sound of rain is because our brain feels comfortable (nature) with the “1/f” (half-predictable and half-unpredictable) fluctuating frequencies of the natural world, which has been experienced since ancient times, and we enter a state of alpha waves, which relaxes us.
Rain sounds also contain high-frequency that are inaudible to the human ear. High frequencies can activate brain functions, promote the elimination of waste, and have a refreshing effect on chronic symptoms such as stiff shoulders and back pain caused by lack of circulation in the body.
Some cutting-edge companies, aware of these effects of rain sounds, have adopted rain sounds as office BGM. They say that the sound of rain improves work efficiency by enhancing concentration, while at the same time having a healing effect by easing tension and calming the mind, making it the perfect office ambience that improves company performance. It's amazing, isn't it?
If this is the case, there is no way we can avoid incorporating the sound of rain into our daily lives! But that doesn't mean you have to wait an agonizingly long time for a rainy day. There is a “rain sound nature sound album” that you can listen to anytime you want, so please take advantage of it!
